VoluDerm RF Micro-Needling
Micro-needling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a minimally invasive treatment to rejuvenate the skin. A device with fine needles creates tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin, which triggers the body to create new collagen and elastin. Results can include improved texture and firmness, as well as skin resurfacing. RF micro-needling adds the element of radiofrequency energy to the traditional micro-needling procedure. The RF energy is delivered via small needles or electrodes. In addition to the benefits seen with the micro-injury provided by the microneedles, RF micro-needling also delivers RF energy deep into the dermis further enhancing skin tightening and scar reduction.
How Does (RF) Micro-Needling Work?
The RF energy heats the underlying layers, causing constriction and tightening of the skin, as well as the stimulation of collagen and elastin production. Because the RF energy is delivered so deeply, it can produce faster results that are more dramatic.
The Lumenis solution: VoluDerm™
Our RF-assisted “micro-needling” solution —VoluDerm™—uses an array of ultra-thin electrodes (or pins) that thermally ablate the skin to reach the deep dermis to activate the body’s natural healing processes. The ultra-thin electrodes create micro-channels to induce controlled micro wounds and thermal damage which stimulates the generation of new and healthy skin. Using the thinnest electrodes (or pins) in the market (ø 0.15 mm), this smooth RF-assisted ablation, instead of thick needles inserted by mechanical force, means reduced pain and downtime. While there is no bleeding, and minimal to no pain with VoluDerm, patients (or clients) obtain the same results from its delivery of RF energy to the deep dermis. The unique smart tip design enables even distribution of RF energy between the needles and the tip surface. This reduces the risk of arcing and undesired side effects while at the same time creating areas of thermal damage. Several disposable tip configurations are available, differing in length and density, to ensure flexibility for creating the desired clinical effect. Treatment is suitable for all skin types in dermatological procedures requiring ablation and skin resurfacing.
A combination protocol: Legend M²™
VoluDerm™ is ideally combined with TriPollar® RF macro-volumetric tissue heating through Legend M2™ combination therapy. The two technologies target different skin layers individually and synergistically in a single treatment.
